ANTIGONIC RIFT, 2015

Bombina Bombast presents a project that develops the art of storytelling through virtual reality. 2015 will be dedicated to exploring different ways of using the Oculus Rift in performing arts contexts. Though having done several projects using game structures in theater settings, this is Bombina Bombast’s first attempt at VR--after working mainly with video guides on iPads and immersive theatrical pieces.

During 2014 and 2015 Bombina Bombast sets out to make two work-in-progress performances to try out different modes of narration. How does one create meaning and direct attention in a 360° medium? How does one situate the spectator in the physical room and in the virtual room? These are some of the questions that will be dealt with.

Outline for the performance:

#1: antigonick rift
antigonick rift is a brief encounter with the words and characters of the greek tragedy. It’s composed with some borrowed material from Anne Carson’s Antigonick, which is a translation of Sophocles’ Antigone, There is darkness and there is text. There are masks and there are puppets. You’re constantly on the lookout for when the next line in the play might show up.
